5 Reasons to Choose DEKK Instead of Polyester

Many people hesitate between polyester (or vinyl ester) and DEKK as waterproofing for their pool. While both offer seamless and colorful options, there are many differences. DEKK outperforms polyester in almost every aspect, from aesthetics to technical performance and durability.

DEKK VS POLYESTER

In reality, polyester is rarely used for swimming pools. Instead, vinyl ester, the improved version of polyester, is applied. Vinyl ester is a synthetic material, while DEKK is a high-quality stucco applied in multiple layers. Both materials offer excellent waterproofing, but if you are looking for a high-end pool finish with a natural appearance, DEKK is by far the best choice.

1. NATURAL FEEL AND LOOK

DEKK is applied by hand, creating a cloudy structure with subtle color variations that can be compared to concrete. Vinyl ester, on the other hand, has a uniform color that looks like a plastic sheet. There is also a significant difference in feel: DEKK feels like natural stone, while vinyl ester feels like synthetic or plastic.

2. IDEAL FOR THE POOL ENVIRONMENT

DEKK stucco can be used both inside and around the pool, both indoors and outdoors. This provides endless creative possibilities because, with an overflow pool, DEKK eliminates the need for a coping stone. Vinyl ester is not resistant to sunlight and other weather conditions, making it unsuitable for outdoor use.

3. HIGHER WATER TEMPERATURE

Vinyl ester can withstand water temperatures up to approximately 30°C, and polyester up to 26°C. DEKK, however, can withstand temperatures up to 120°C. Additionally, it has numerous technical properties that you won't find in any other pool waterproofing material. The artisanal application with reinforcement makes it extremely strong.

4. LIFETIME ENJOYMENT

The price difference between the two options depends on the surface area, but on average, DEKK is twice as expensive as vinyl ester. The artisanal stucco and quality come with a price, but we are transparent about this on our pricing page. And remember that DEKK is locally repairable in case of damage and lasts a lifetime. In short, a one-time investment for life.

5. SUSTAINABLE SWIMMING

DEKK is made from mineral and natural components, is 100% recyclable, and requires minimal maintenance. This makes it a sustainable pool finish that, unlike synthetic materials, leaves no residue in the pool water.
